Tour Overview

​

The first stop is at VITTORIOSA, one of the three cities and the place where the Knights of St. John first set foot when they arrived in Malta in 1530. This old fortified city lies on the south east of the Grand Harbour and is also house to Fort St. Angelo. The tour continues to the cave of Ghar Dalam, (Cave of Darkness) a prehistoric site renowned for its Palaeontology, archaeology and ecology importance. The animal bones found within are evident proof that Malta was once linked to Sicily and to mainland Europe by a land bridge. Marsaxlokk, a quaint village with colourful boats, active fishermen and an open market concludes this tour.

GHAR DALAM CAVE

The site consists of a cave, a Victorian style exhibition and a didactic display as well as a garden planted with indigenous plants and trees.

Layers of stone containing the fossil bones of dwarf elephants, hippopotami, micro-mammals and birds among other species are still evident. (Entrance fee).

MARSAXLOKK VILLAGE

This is a photo opportunity to capture the colourful boats in this quaint fishing village as well as a chance to visit the open market that is setup along the promenade. You may wish to avail yourself from the various restaurants and have a light meal.
